One of my photos from Crystal Fighter show at the HMV Institute is in this months Brum Notes Magazine so go and pick up a copy if you haven’t already, or go and read it online. They did crop the image down a bit which I’m not too keen on but it was still great to see it printed out :)

After being given around 5 themes that could be very cliche I tried to create images that clearly expressed their themes but were slightly abstract. While I have not put all the images I have taken for the assignment (ironically the one entitled security could potentially be a personal security risk if i posted it online), Here are some of my images for the themes Fear, Risk and Peace.

No posts and then 8 in one day – an explanation

So as some viewers of this blog may be aware, I’m currently in my third year of University studying the music industry and it has been extremely busy with assignments over the last fortnight or so. This coupled with shooting four shows in five days and the post processing that entailed, meant that while I was posting pictures to flickr fairly quickly, I have had little time in which to maintain my blog. This may happen from time to time over the next few months, as well as some decrease in the amount of shows I cover (Don’t worry I still intend to cover as many as possible).

I also have some really big shows in the pipeline so keep your eyes peeled for those coming up, over the next few days I intend to post some of my photography work I have been carrying out for Uni so you can check that out, its pretty different to my usual stuff so I hope you like it.

Thanks for being patient over the last few weeks I’m off now to try and sort some passes for more shows :P

So as its been a while since I have updated the blog their has been a fair few of my reviews go live online, I thought I would post a special blog to link to all of them if you want to go and check them out. The site has been rendering the images in a slightly odd way lately so if you want the best quality follow the link to flicker and check out the images in their sets there.

Less Than Jake  at the Birmingham Academy here

Apocalyptica at the Wolverhampton Wulfrun can be viewed here

Sum 41 at the Birmingham Academy here

There will be some more going up soon.

Goo Goo Dolls – Birmingham Academy – 11th November

The Goo Goo Dolls have been writing great music for longer than I have been alive (literally) With Classics like Black Balloon, Slide and the massive Iris  the guys put on an excellent and surprisingly down to earth show letting their music do the talking. Their will soon be a larger live review at Clink so I will link that but in the meantime check out there new CD it shows that even after a band has been going for years if they have great songwriting talent they will still produce gem after gem.

Unkle Bob – Birmingham Academy – November the 11th

Unkle Bob were the Goo Goo Dolls show at the Birmingham Academy on the 11th November. Mixing sounds of bands like Belle and Sebastian and Radiohead  they have a mellow sound, with great vocal harmonies putting on a tight set. A larger review will soon be listed on Clink.

Less Than Jake – Birmingham Academy – 6th November

Less Than Jake have long been the leading the way in the current Ska scene and theres good reason why, they merge their sound and stage antics with that of pop punk resulting in a fun show full of energy that is impossible not to dance to. From start to finish the crowd was jumping skanking and singing along its the kind of show that you cant help but watch with a massive smile on your face, no matter what mood you may have been in that day I defy anyone not to leave in a good mood.

Zebrahead – Birmingham Academy – 6th November

After seeing Zebrahead on the Taste Of Chaos Tour a few years ago I knew they would really get tonight’s crowd going with songs like Anthem the band had everyone jumping and singing along.

We Are The Union – Birmingham Academy – 6th November

The first band supporting Less Than Jake at the Birmingham Academy on the 6th of November was We Are The Union with a good dose of hardcore influenced pop punk they got the previously quite room moving and ready for the bouncy ska that was coming up. Full review will be linked to Clink.

Apocalyptica – Wolverhampton Wulfrun –

Apocalyptica make the most epic of music, creating sounds out of cellos that I have definitely not heard any band classical or rock make before, they put on an entertaining show made even better for me by the quite nice lighting that was fun to work with. There will be a link to a full review on Clink soon.
